RE-COAT GUIDELINES

The following are general guidelines for re-coating both Polycoat and other similar polyurethane deck coating systems.
Specific re-coating procedures will be determined only after a thorough inspection of the existing coating system that is to
be re-coated.
1. Pressure-wash the existing polyurethane coating with a suitable cleaning agent such as TSP and water to degrease
and remove all foreign matter, dirt, debris, and loose coating. A citrus based or other more stringent cleaner may be
required for removal of stubborn grease stains. Thoroughly rinse to remove all cleaning residue.
2. Completely remove all striping paint (on parking decks).
3. Perform all necessary crack and spall repairs, if any, per manufacturer’s standard recommendations.
4. Perform an adhesion test(s) as necessary.
5. Patch all exposed substrate with basecoat such as PC-260. Abrade exposed concrete substrate to create an ICRI CSP 3
profile for pedestrian decks and CSP 4-5 profile for vehicular decks if necessary and prime with Polyprime 21 or 2180
®
prior to patching; Polyprime U may be used in pedestrian deck applications.

6. Prime the existing coating with the appropriate Polycoat re-coat primer.
Options
a. Apply an intermediate coat with sand followed by application of a topcoat.
b. Apply a topcoat with sand and back roll.
c. Apply a complete deck coating system.
Pedestrian Deck Re-Coat Procedure
1. Pressure-wash the existing polyurethane coating with a suitable cleaning agent such as TSP and water to degrease
and remove all foreign matter, dirt, debris, and loose coating. A citrus based or other more stringent cleaner may be
required for removal of stubborn grease stains. Thoroughly rinse to remove all cleaning residue.
2. Perform all necessary crack and spall repairs, if any, per manufacturer’s standard recommendations.
3. Perform an adhesion test(s) as necessary.
4. Patch all exposed substrate with basecoat such as PC-260. Abrade exposed concrete substrate to create an ICRI CSP 3
profile for pedestrian decks and CSP 4-5 profile for vehicular decks if necessary and prime with Polyprime U at a rate

of 1 gal/300 sqft (0.14 liters/sqm) or 300 sqft/gal and broadcast aggregate at desired rate into wet primer.
5. Apply Polyglaze 100 at 1 1/4 gallons/100 sqft or 80 sqft/gallon (0.51 liters/sqm).

Note: Polycoat will issue a 5 year product warranty for this application premised on the existing coating being in sound condition.

Vehicular Deck Re-Coat Procedure
1. Pressure-wash the existing polyurethane coating with a suitable cleaning agent such as TSP and water to degrease
and remove all foreign matter, dirt, debris, and loose coating. A citrus based or other more stringent cleaner may be
required for removal of stubborn grease stains. Thoroughly rinse to remove all cleaning residue.
2. Completely remove all striping paint (on parking decks).
3. Abrade all exposed concrete to render a CSP 4-5 profile.
4. Perform all necessary crack and spall repairs, if any, per manufacturer’s standard recommendations.
5. Perform an adhesion test(s) as necessary.
6. Patch all exposed substrate with basecoat such as PC-260. Abrade exposed concrete substrate to create an ICRI CSP 3
profile for pedestrian decks and CSP 4-5 profile for vehicular decks if necessary and prime with Polyprime 21 or 2180

prior to patching; Polyprime U may be used in pedestrian deck applications.

7. Prime the existing coating with the appropriate Polycoat re-coat primer.
8. Apply Poly-I-Gard 246 Vehicular Deck Coating System per manufacturer’s system data sheet.
